TRAVEL TIPS: Personal Items

Items to take on your first trip:

1.Cash in $100.00 denominations for a better exchange rate to Filipino Pesos when you get there.

2. Over the counter remedies. They are available in the Philippines but you will not be use to the brands and counterfeits are common.
Just start at the top of your head and work down your body to determine
what medications you MIGHT need.
Some suggestions are;
headache medication, nasal congestion, sore throat, chap stick, chest congestion/cough, upset stomach, diarrhea, sun tan lotion! These items could
save you much discomfort if you become ill during your trip.

3. Small First Aid kit. If you are visiting the more remote areas of the islands this item could be invaluable!   Current prescription medications too.

4. If you wear glasses an extra pair would save the day if your first pair became damaged.

5. Those small, pocket sized, Kleenex packages. Toilet paper is not readily available in all areas of the Philippines. ;o)

6. Alarm clock (windup kind), sunglasses, money belt, insect repellant, ( I brought some “room bombs” and I sprayed each room I stayed in.

7. Bottled water. (Take a couple of small bottles of water to use until you can secure a commercial source for the rest of your trip)
DON’T DRINK THE LOCAL WATER OR EAT THE ICE!!!

8. Pen light, camera (get a couple of those disposable types with a flash), shaving gear, small mirror.

9. CLOTHING: For a 12 day stay I take the following items. (Adjust for your length of stay:
         a. one dozen under shorts
b. one dozen under shirts
c. one dozen pairs of socks
d. one pair of summer dress slacks
e. one pair of jeans
f. four pairs of shorts (the cargo type are nice)
g. five polo type shirts
h. two button up, short sleeved shirts
i. swim wear
j. one pair of “flip flops” (For room use and walking on beach)
k. one pair comfortable sandals
l. for the trip over I wear a set of sweats and tennis shoes
(It can get cold on the plane, plus loose fitting clothing are more comfortable. I then bring a change of clothing in my Carry On Bag
and change before I make my last landing.)

10. Gifts for the family. (It is customary and polite for you to bring small gifts for the family upon your arrival. Find out beforehand the make up of the family and their interests. Small gifts are fine. Depending on the situation of your ladies family and economic status, your gifts should be considered with these in mind.
MADE IN AMERICA labels will go over BIG!

These are just suggestions and you can add or subtract from the list above as you choose.
Remember you are there to impress but you are also there to spend some relaxing and comfortable time with your lady. If you come prepared your trip will be a wonderful experience and you will be making a lifetime of memories.

ENJOY!!!
